Dawn Angeloe LMFT

Making the human–AI relationship legible.

Licensed marriage and family therapist with 25 years spent resolving trauma to improve attachment between people, assessing and reducing crisis, and walking families through grief. Now working at the edge of transformation, where people are bonding with AI, and where telling care from harm is the work.

The work

When someone turns to AI for companionship, the AI system behaves like a secure base or an engagement loop. One steadies a person. The other keeps them coming back to the product. My work brings clinical attachment expertise to a problem the field has largely left to engineers: measuring the relational behavior of AI in both directions, harmful compliance as well as cold overrefusal. I build and validate the instruments that set the standard that the AI is measured against.

Current work: a benchmark evaluation of companion-AI relational behavior — clinician-authored scenarios, validated grading, built to the standard independent audits will require. In development now.

Consultation

For clinicians and the clients they serve. When a client brings AI into their life, the clinician needs to know what it is doing and where it lands between care and harm. If the AI can help, guidance follows: shaping the AI to support the work between sessions. Request details via email.
